Religion is for G-d 2:193
Engage them in war until you have determined that there is no more affliction. Hasten to obedience, for worship is for G-d. But if they respond positively, let there be no more violation or exceeding the limits, except for the unjust.
Al Islam is a religion of peace and we are not to be the aggressors, even in cases of war. If the other side shows a willingness for peace we are to incline towards them.
The spirit of what G-d gave us is to continue to keep out the bad influences and thoughts and to remain obedient, peaceful and respectful to one another, while keeping respect for G-d.
